Meet the Team

Alan Keen
PresidentMy name is Alan Keen. I have been a member of Doncaster Camera Club since December 2021, but I joined my first club in September 2015. I enjoy most genres of photography, but I particularly enjoy portraiture and macro photography. For the last 25 years or so, I have used Canon equipment, and I have recently moved over from DSLR to Mirrorless cameras. I enjoy editing and use a variety of software to obtain the look I want. I was honoured to be awarded Doncaster CC Photographer of the Year for the 2023/24 season, and to be appointed Vice President for the 2024/25 season, and then taking on the role of President for the following year.

Steve Dormer DPGAB BPE2 AFIAP
The Immediate Past President / Web MasterMy name is Steve Dormer, and I’ve been involved with photography for over five decades. While I’ve always enjoyed it, the digital age ignited my passion and commitment to art. I love experimenting with all genres of photography, and I’m proud to serve as a judge for the Yorkshire Photographic Union. My current camera is a Fujifilm X-T4.

Carol Hall
Honorary TreasurerI have enjoyed taking photos for most of my life, holiday snapshots mostly, but really started to try to take better quality photos when I got a DSLR when I retired in 2014. I enjoy taking all kinds of photos, but I especially enjoy landscapes and nature, birds, flowers, butterflies and fungi! I read a lot about photography, look at a lot of photography websites, and relish the way there is always more to learn and new techniques to try out. Since joining the camera club, I have developed a better understanding of what makes a ‘good’ photo, and enjoy the talks we have from photographers who are experts in their field.

Nicholas Collins
Competition SecretaryII have been interested in photography since I was a teenager but never really took it seriously. Things took a big step forward when my wife bought me a fully manual Yashica TLR camera from her first month’s wages. I loved it and it went everywhere with me. Three children and many, many photos later, my camera had a bit of an accident. It was just as digital camera technology was emerging and the advice I received from an independent, specialist camera shop was not to bother, digital photography will never catch on. Fortunately for me, I ignored the advice and jumped on the bandwagon and found it amazing. I settled in Doncaster and heard about the Doncaster Camera Club. I joined up and was encouraged to enter a few of my images. I found it such an education listening to the judges; comments and those of other club members. Acting on those comments has really helped with identifying which shots to take, setting up my shots and executing them as well as post-processing and self-critiquing them. I hope it will continue to do this for me and all our members. Remember, advice is always worth listening to free, and you don’t have to take it. Happy shooting!

Council Member / Programe SecretaryI suppose I have taken photography seriously for over forty years. I joined Doncaster Camera Club in the early 1980 and first served as President in 1987. I have always had a love for black & white photographs and it was in the darkroom where I first learnt the art of photographic printing. Since 1980 I have used Canon Cameras and today use a 5DMk111 and a 7DMk 11 with a variety of lenses, although I have always enjoyed using wide angles from 10mm to 16mm.

I joined the Club over ten years ago. Like many, I first discovered a love for photography as a teenager and later in life , with more leisure time at hand, I was eager to explore avenues to refine my skills and broaden my perspective. I had no idea what to expect of the Camera Club but it proved to be the right place for me, offering a supportive community and numerous opportunities to learn and grow. In 2018 I was delighted to achieve the award of CPAGB.
I use Nikon equipment and, increasingly, my phone camera. I prefer to work in black and white and enjoy experimenting with infra-red. I have a developing interest in street photography but my key interests are in sport and landscape photography. One of the most enjoyable aspects of the Club for me is the Landscape special interest group; including the occasional trips out that we take together, which are both socially enjoyable and photographically rewarding.
I have previously been a member of the Club Council and for a challenging two years during the Covid pandemic served as Club President. After a break of several years I am pleased to be involved in the running of the club once again and further developing what it has to offer both for current and prospective members. Hopefully, together we can guide the club toward a future that is as inspiring and dynamic as its history.
