As the newly appointed club president, my first duty this season is to express my heartfelt gratitude to Steve Harratt for his dedicated service as president/treasurer. I also extend my sincere thanks to the entire committee for their hard work throughout the last season. To those committee members who have taken on new roles, and to those who have stepped down after years of service, your contributions are greatly appreciated.
Our new venue has been a resounding success, providing more opportunities for members to socialise over tea, coffee, and biscuits. I want to thank Alan Thorpe for his efforts in operating and managing this.
In terms of achievements, we’ve excelled in both national and international exhibitions. We secured eighth place in the Open Section and tenth place in the Nature section of the GB Cup. Additionally, we ranked a commendable fourteenth out of 226 clubs in the FIAP World Cup.
Looking ahead to the upcoming season, we have an exciting and diverse program of events and speakers planned. Furthermore, in 2025, we will have the honour of hosting the YPU exhibition once again in Pontefract.
Whether you’re a new member or a returning one, you’ll be warmly welcomed. I’m genuinely excited about the new season and can’t wait to see you all.

My name is Alan Keen. I been a member of Doncaster Camera Club since December 2021, but I joined my first club in September 2015. I enjoy most genres of photography, but I particularly enjoy portraiture and macro photography. For the last 25 years or so I have used Canon equipment, and I have recently moved over from DSLR to Mirrorless cameras. I enjoy editing and use a variety of software to obtain the look I want. I was honoured to be awarded Doncaster CC Photographer of the Year for the 2023/24 season, and to be appointed Vice President for the 2024/25 seaso

I have enjoyed taking photos for most of my life, holiday snapshots mostly, but really started to try to take better quality photos when I got a DSLR when I retired in 2014. I enjoy taking all kinds of photos, but I especially enjoy landscapes and nature, birds, flowers, butterflies and fungi! I read a lot about photography, look at a lot of photography websites, and relish the way there is always more to learn and new techniques to try out. Since joining the camera club, I have developed a better understanding of what makes a 'good' photo, and enjoy the talks we have from photographers who are experts in their field.

I have been interested in photography since I was a teenager but never really took it seriously. Things took a big step forward when my wife bought me a fully manual Yashica TLR camera from her first month’s wages. I loved it and it went everywhere with me. Three children and many, many photos later, my camera had a bit of an accident. It was just as digital camera technology was emerging and the advice I received from an independent, specialist, camera shop was not to bother, digital photography will never catch on. Fortunately for me, I ignored the advice and jumped on the band wagon and found it amazing. I settled in Doncaster and heard about the Doncaster Camera Club. I joined up and was encouraged to enter a few of my images. I found it such an education listening to the judges’ comments and those of other club members. Acting on those comments has really helped with identifying which shots to take, setting-up my shots and executing them as well as post-processing and self-critiquing them. I hope it will continue to do this for me and all our members. Remember, advice is always worth listening to… it’s free and you don’t have to take it. Happy shooting!
Members of the Council
I have always had a love for black & white photographs and it was in the darkroom where I first learnt the art of photographic printing.
Since 1980 I have used Canon Cameras and today use a 5DMk111 and a 7DMk 11 with a variety of lenses, although I have always enjoyed using wide angles from 10mm to 16mm.
